HealthPAL: An Audio Health Library of Clinic Visit Recordings
Our team has designed and tested HealthPAL, a patient-centered application designed for patients and their caregivers to record and access easy-to-navigate recordings of clinic visits
What is HealthPAL?
HealthPAL is a HIPAA-compliant application that serves as a personal library of clinic visit recordings to assist patients with managing their own care. HealthPAL empowers patients and caregivers to make recordings of clinic visits, store them securely, and easily navigate the audio or video recordings. Once a recording is made, patients can share their recordings with family members or caregivers, make their own notes in-app, and playback their recordings to hear any information they may have missed at the time of recording. HealthPAL is also available in Spanish and has been translated in partnership with our colleagues at the University Texas Medical Branch, using the General Services Administration-endorsed “The Spanish Group LLC.”
Intelligent Annotations
Using natural language processing, our software maximizes the utility of visit recordings by automatically tagging key visit information (e.g. tests, medications, imaging) within the recording transcript. The robust functionality and user-friendly design of HealthPAL has the potential to greatly improve the retention and understanding of clinic visit information for patients and caregivers alike. We are actively user-testing the HealthPAL app and researching its ability to improve the patient and caregiver experience.
